  North Hempstead Residents Respond to the Clean Up Effort 

 


 LISTEN:Supervisor Jon Kaiman and County Executive Ed Mangano Initiate a Reverse 311 Call to Update Great Neck Residents on Storm Damage 


 


   Summer Storm by the Numbers 

  • 16,300 LIPA customers without electricty in North Hempstead & 65,000 customers throughout Long Island.
  • Over 1000 calls to 311 Call Center (Calls included reports about fallen branches and trees, requests for debris pickup, and general storm inquiries). Call center remained open for 36 hours straight. 
  • Over 1,100 tons of storm related debris collected by North Hempstead's Highway Department.
  • Over 1,000 tons tress uprooted, some over 100 years old.
  • Over 100 town employees responded. Hundreds of hours logged.
  • 80 trucks dispatched by the town's Highway Department.
  • 105mph wind gusts recorded.
  •  Hail as large as 1.75 inches in diameter.
