2012 Women's Roll of Honor

The 19th Annual North Hempstead Women’s History Month Breakfast/ May W. Newburger Women’s Roll of Honor will be held at the Clubhouse at Harbor Links on March 22, 2012 beginning at 8:00 AM. On that morning, The Town will add another group of outstanding women to the prestigious Roll of Honor.  In 2011, we welcomed over 200 people, and we are certain that this year’s event will be even more successful.

Valentines Day 2012

The third annual North Hempstead Valentines Day Re-Commitment Ceremony will take place February 14, 2012 at Harbor Links Clubhouse in Port Washington.  Last year’s event included 60 couples who had been married for over 50 years.  This year, we expect to welcome 80 couples who will participate in the ceremony and stay for a sumptuous luncheon.

North Hempstead Town Clerk Leslie Gross is looking for teachers who teach or live in the Town of North Hempstead to honor as "Hometown Heroes." Teachers touch our lives and inspire future generations… Too often, they are unsung heroes who constantly make positive contributions to the community.

Visit Daly School

On Monday October 24, Town Clerk Leslie Gross visited Daly School to share information with the class about her responsibilities as Town Clerk. With her was Port Washington resident, Kevin Greenstein (who was born with cerebral palsy). Kevin spoke to Mrs. Andors' 5th grade class about his experiences as a student at John J. Daly Elementary School, and answered many thoughtful questions from students in the class. Kevin works part-time in the North Hempstead Town Clerk's Office as Community Liason with his job coach, Robin Black.

Town Presents Check to Carle Place Seniors

In late September, North Hempstead Town Clerk Leslie Gross represented the Town at a Presentation from the Town of North Hempstead to the Carle Place Senior Citizens at the Charles Fuschillo Park in Carle Place . Along with the Clerk was Councilwoman Viviana Russell and Receiver of Taxes Charlie Berman.  The Carle Place Senior Citizens Organization gratefully accepted a $2,500 check and thanked the Town for its support.

Anti-Domestic Violence Workshop

by North Hempstead’s Committee Against Family Violence. 


 
Herricks Senior Center Anniversary  

In late September, North Hempstead Town Clerk Leslie Gross attended the 31st  Anniversary Celebration for the Herricks Senior Center. Leslie awarded the Senior Center with a citation for 31 years of service to the community.

Greekfest 2011



North Hempstead Beach Park recently hosted the Archangel Michael Greek Festival on the Harbor 2011, September 30 through October 2.  Visitors enjoyed Greek Food, Music, Rides, Games and a Flea Market.  The Festivities even included a Fireworks Display.

The Town of North Hempstead and ACS Home Care 
Candle Lighting Ceremony 
Paying tribute to Individuals with Alzheimer’s Disease

The Town and ACS Home Care will hold an inspirational candle lighting ceremony on November 13, 2011 to remember individuals and their families who have been affected by Alzheimer’s Disease.  Town Clerk Leslie Gross said “We are excited to once again host this event to raise awareness of the issues surrounding Alzheimer’s Disease. We particularly want to let family members and caregivers know about the resources which are available to them.” The ceremony will begin at 4:00 pm at Mary Jane Davies Park, across from Town Hall II  ( 200 Plandome Rd. , Manhasset ).  In addition to the candle lighting ceremony, participants will have the opportunity to read names of individuals who have been affected by Alzheimer’s Disease. The community event is part of the 9th annual National Commemorative Candle Lighting Ceremony sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA).  For more information, call (888)991-2323 or visit www.thecarespecialists.com.

 9/11 Remembrance

On Sunday, September 11, 2011, the Town of North Hempstead will hold a Memorial Service at 8:30 A.M. at Clark Botanic Garden, 193 I.U. Willets Road, Albertson.  Open to all, this service is an opportunity for our community to reflect on the events of ten years ago.  If you have any questions, please call 311 or the Office of the Town Clerk at 869-7646.


Marriage Equality Law

On June 24, 2011, the New York State Legislature passed the Marriage Equality Law, which was signed into law by Governor Cuomo the same day. This new law took effect on July 24, 2011 and the Town Clerk's office  began issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples. State law requires couples to wait 24 hours after receiving a license before they can be married. The Town Clerk's Office was open on Sunday July 24, 2011 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, and issued over 25 marriage licenses.
