TONH Offers Hurricane Safety Tips

North Hempstead, NY—Before the 2009 Atlantic hurricane season kicked off on June 1, forecasters were calling for 12 named storms, with about half developing into hurricanes.

Now, three months into the season, no storms have formed in the Atlantic. Still, meteorologists warn, a monster hurricane could be spawned before the season ends on November 30.

With that in mind, North Hempstead Supervisor Jon Kaiman and North Hempstead Town Board urged residents to take precautionary steps to protect their families and properties.

“While I sincerely hope we never face a major hurricane, I would like to take this opportunity to remind residents of this old adage: an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure,” said Supervisor Kaiman.
