Councilman Tom Dwyer was appointed to the Town Board on January 29, 2002 to fill the vacated position held by Doreen Banks and was elected on November 5, 2002 to finish out the remainder of her term. Councilman Dwyer currently resides in East Williston with his wife, Melissa and their children Juliana (7), Leah (5) and Thomas Gabriel (1) . Councilman Dwyer has lived in the Town ( Williston Park , Mineola and East Williston ) his whole life. Councilman Dwyer holds a Master's Degree in Business Administration and an undergraduate degree in Economics. He is currently an Investment Banker for a boutique firm in New York City .

Councilman Dwyer serves on the Board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and is the First Vice President of the Long Island Board of Big Brothers Big Sisters. Councilman Dwyer also serves on the Board of the Working Organization for Retarded Children and Adults, and until recently served as a Commissioner to the North Hempstead Housing Authority.

Councilman Dwyer's professional experience has concentrated in two specific areas; economic development and municipal finance. After completing his thesis on the Economic Development Zones Program in New York State , Councilman Dwyer went to work for the Urban Development Corporation (Empire State Development Corporation). As a Financial Analyst at UDC, Councilman Dwyer r eviewed and analyzed annual budgets for UDC and all subsidiaries. In addition, Councilman Dwyer developed policies and procedures for New York State economic development loan programs.

As an Investment Banker, Councilman Dwyer advises clients regarding long-term capital programs and short-term capital needs. He also develops strategies with the use of financial products to reduce debt burden of municipal issuers throughout the Northeast.

Councilman Dwyer is the liaison to East Williston , Williston Park , Mineola , Albertson and Roslyn Heights . In this capacity he works closely with civic and community groups as well as Village Officials. He is also the Town's representative to the Ecological committee and the Technology committee.

Community Activities:

• Board of Directors, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America – Currently serving over 200,000 at risk children in the United States . Plan to serve up to 1,000,000 children by 2010.

• Board of Directors, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island – Serving the children of Long Island through one-to-one mentoring, school based mentoring and a program called "Playing it Safe".

• Board of Directors, Working Organization for Retarded Children – Initiated a music program with the assistance of State Senator Michael Balboni serving the needs of autistic children.

• Board of Commissioners, North Hempstead Housing Authority – Assisted in plan to renovate apartments in Manhasset, Roslyn, Great Neck and Port Washington . Currently, renovation has been completed through the use of innovative tax-credit financing in Manhasset and Roslyn.
