NORTH HEMPSTEAD FOOD SHOPPING BUSES

The Town has a fleet of buses that transports seniors free of charge for weekly door-to-door grocery shopping and monthly trips to Roosevelt Field.  You must apply for the Town of North Hempstead Senior Citizen I.D. Card to take advantage of this service.  For more information call 311 if within the Town or (516) 869-6311 if outside the Town.

MTA BUS TRANSPORTATION

The Town of North Hempstead Senior Citizen I.D. Card or the Nassau County Senior Citizen Leisure Pass entitles seniors age 60 and over to ride at half fair on MTA – LI buses in Nassau County.  Transfers can be obtained which are valid for two connecting bus routes in the same direction. LONG ISLAND RAILROAD

Senior citizens age 65 and over may use their Medicare card, driver's license or birth certificate at any ticket office or aboard a train to receive half fare on the Long Island Railroad except for trains arriving in N.Y.C. between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. on weekdays. The railroad reserves the right to ask for additional personal identification or a signature sample. For information call:

MEDICAL AND SPECIAL TRANSPORTATION/ABLE-RIDE/PARATRANSIT PROGRAM

This program provides door-to-door transportation service for those individuals who are unable to utilize mass transit due to physical or visual disabilities. Reservations and advance notice are required. You may register for up to 8 trips a month. The fee is $3.75 one way. For application and further information, contact:

PROJECT INDEPENDENCE TRANSPORTATION INITIATIVE - PILOT PROGRAM

The Town of North Hempstead's Project Independence transporation program now offers free taxi rides for seniors for local shopping one day a week. The following brochure will show if the pilot program is offered in your area:
