Mill Pond Park

516-869-6311

Shore Road & Harbor Road, Port Washington

The Town of North Hempstead is reaching completion on a major restoration effort at Mill Pond that was largely funded by grants. The project included the dredging of 10,000 cubic yards of sediment from the pond, reshaping of the pond floor to enhance the ecological environment, repairing the wall surrounding the pond and improving the flow of water to and from Manhasset Bay.

The Town planted wetland vegetation to filter stormwater runoff and cleanse the pond, and installed devices to prevent future sedimentation in the pond. The park area surrounding the pond was improved with new landscaping, benches and a new brick walkway. Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington will further enhance the pond area by constructing a landscaped garden (paid for through a grant from Ed and Dorothy Slade). The federal, state, and county governments assisted with funding for the multi-million dollar project.
