Town Operation: Clean Sweep to Commence in North Hempstead
Street Sweepers Will Hit Town Roads Starting April 27

North Hempstead, NY – Starting April 27, Town of North Hempstead crews will be hitting the streets to sweep up the debris this winter left behind in the annual Operation: Clean Sweep. This two week initiative is held each spring and aims to sweep every mile of North Hempstead roads.

“This year took an especially heavy toll on the roads around North Hempstead, leaving behind large amounts of dirt and debris. That is why this initiative is so crucial. It will improve the condition of our roads and make them safer for motorists,” said Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth about Operation: Clean Sweep. “This is North Hempstead’s 'spring cleaning.'”

Last year, the Town’s environmentally friendly street sweepers gobbled up 4 million pounds of debris, with an even higher total expected this year.

The Highway Department requests the public’s help to make Clean Sweep a success. The Town asks residents to refrain from parking vehicles on town roads from 7am until 3pm during Operation: Clean Sweep. The public’s cooperation will ensure that the roads are cleaned as well ass they can be.

From Monday, April 27 to May 1, all areas not within incorporated villages and South of the Long Island Expressway will be swept. From Monday, May 4 to May 8, all areas not within incorporated villages and North of the Long Island Expressway will be swept.
