First-Ever PortFest Receives Rave Reviews

Manhasset, NY– Thousands attended the first-ever PortFest, an outdoor celebration of local artists and supporting creative arts education in Port Washington Public Schools.

The festival, which took place at Schreiber High School in Port Washington on Saturday, May 19th, was made possible by the community organization, HEARTS (Helping Enrich the Arts).

Supervisor Jon Kaiman and Councilwoman De Giorgio attended the celebration which included performances by the Schreiber Jazz Ensemble, seven local bands, art exhibits, improv performances and even a technology tent where residents were challenged to a variety of brain teasers.

“I was pleased to have the opportunity to support PortFest,” said Councilwoman De Giorgio.  “The members of the HEARTS organization should be proud of their accomplishments.  I thank them for their commitment to our community and look forward to working with them on many more events in the future.”

HEARTS founder Damon Gersh, “PortFest was all about raising awareness of the arts in Port Washington.  We want Port to be known as the cultural center of Long Island.”

Community Liaison for HEARTS and coordinator of Port Fest Leigh Richards exclaimed, “I had a blast getting to know the people that make this town so great!”
