Councilwoman Dina De Giorgio Spotlights Eagle Scout Vegetable Garden Project

Port Washington, NY– Councilwoman Dina De Giorgio recently announced that thanks to an Eagle Scout project guided by Port Washington resident David Wolmark, North Hempstead’s Senior Center in Port Washington now boasts new vegetable gardens, and freshly-mulched, replanted flower beds.

The June 2 project was accomplished with the help of Wolmark’s peers from Boy Scout Troop 7 of Port Washington.

“It’s always great to see this true sense of community from our youth,” said Councilwoman De Giorgio. “David and the rest of Troop #7 deserve a round of applause for making Port Washington a better place to live.”

Wolmark, 14, choose the Senior Center on Manorhaven Blvd. as the location for his Eagle Scout project with his grandparents in mind.

“My grandparents recently moved to Port Washington and I know if they would want to have a landscaped senior center so would other seniors in this community,” explained Wolmark. “I saw the need to refurbish these flower beds and it was a perfect fit for my Eagle Scout project.”

In addition to replanting flower beds, a new vegetable garden was planted behind the center which included string beans, tomatoes, and a variety of herbs.
