Town Invites Seniors to an Inspirational Workshop for Project Independence
New Cassel, NY- Town Supervisor Jon Kaiman, and the North Hempstead Town Board invite residents 60 and over to share their life stories at the “Life Review” Workshop at the North Hempstead “Yes We Can” Community Center, Wednesday, May 15, from 10 am – 2 pm. This event conforms to the objectives of North Hempstead’s Project Independence program which enables aging residents of the Town to remain in their homes and familiar surroundings as they grow older.
The “Life Review” is an inspirational workshop facilitated by authors and activists Sue Salko and Ron Gross, who are seniors themselves. Long Island residents Salko and Gross are members of the prestigious Columbia University Seminar on Innovation in Education.
“In these workshops, sharing of significant life experiences is encouraged as well as the sharing of choices and life lessons learned.” said Salko. Gross added, “Many times attendees jump-start their personal memoirs. This program can be an adventure in self-discovery – and a lovely gift for family and friends.”
Salko and Gross, are known to many as “the gurus extraordinaire of creative aging”, and are quite familiar to Nassau County audiences. Salko regularly presents programs for the Great Neck Senior Center, the National Council of Jewish Women, and other organizations. Additionally, she has been a senior advocate for State Senator Kemp Hannon. Gross has conducted the Socrates Salon, monthly, at the Great Neck Library for twenty years, and is the author of “The New Old,” and 20 other books.
This workshop is funded by a grant from the Manhasset Community Fund’s Greentree Foundation Good Neighbor Fund.
