North Hempstead Celebrates Annual “National Night Out 2013” on August 6th

Westbury, NY
–Supervisor Jon Kaiman, Councilwoman Viviana Russell, and Nassau County Legislator Robert Troiano would like to invite residents to join them, along with other government officials and law enforcement representatives, in celebrating “National Night Out 2013”, the annual crime and drug prevention rally.

The event will be held on August 6th at Martin “Bunky” Reid Park, located at Broadway and Railroad Street in Westbury. The parade starts at 5:00pm at the Salvation Army on 992 Prospect Avenue in Westbury, and the festivities begin at 6:00pm in the park.

“’National Night Out’ is not only an occasion aimed at supporting local anti-crime, but it is also an opportunity to come together and celebrate a safe and healthy community,” said Supervisor Kaiman.

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Justice, with support from a host of local businesses and institutions including North Shore Child & Family Guidance Center and the New Cassel/Westbury Community-wide Partnership, “National Night Out” promotes neighborhood anti-crime efforts, crime and drug-prevention awareness, and police-community partnerships.

“’National Night Out’ is an opportunity for the community to come together as one to say, ‘we don’t want drugs and crime in our neighborhood’,” said Councilwoman Viviana Russell, a longtime New Cassel resident. “We are a diverse community, and by working as one, we can strengthen our neighborhood spirit to not only protect our quality of life, but enhance it.”

“National Night Out: America's Night Out Against Crime”, was introduced in 1984 by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW). The program was the brainchild of NATW Executive Director Matt A. Peskin. The event, New Cassel’s 30th, will feature music, dancing, refreshments, arts & crafts, raffles, health screenings, giveaways, and much more.
