Town of North Hempstead Accepts President’s ‘My Brother’s Keeper’ Challenge
Local Action Summit with Community Leaders on Nov. 17, 2 p.m.

North Hempstead, NY – On Monday, November 17, 2014, the Town of North Hempstead will host a local action summit of community leaders to discuss the Town’s acceptance of the “My Brother’s Keeper” (MBK) Challenge, a Presidential initiative which focuses on efforts to eliminate opportunity gaps, barriers, and challenges facing youth in our community and to ensure that all young people can reach their full potential.

On September 27, 2014, President Obama named over 100 municipalities across the nation as “early acceptors” of the White House MBK Challenge, including the Town of North Hempstead. North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth announced that the first step in an action plan with the Local Action Summit would take place at Town Hall at 2 p.m.

“The Town of North Hempstead has accepted the ‘My Brother's Keeper Community Challenge’ to ensure all young people can succeed,” said Supervisor Bosworth. “We have invited dozens of community leaders and stakeholders to identify effective strategies and work together toward achieving several goals set by the President. I am enthusiastic and optimistic that with our wonderful people and resources we will be able to achieve much.”

According to the MBK Challenge, Towns must accept two or three goals set by the Administration. In North Hempstead, the goals are to ensure that all youth graduate from high school; all youth complete post-secondary education or training; and all youth out of school are employed.

Cindy Cardinal, Chief of Staff for the Supervisor, and Rachel Brinn, Director of Governmental Affairs for the Supervisor, are the local points of contact for the My Brother’s Keeper Challenge, working in tandem with the Town of North Hempstead.
