Hundreds Kick off Holiday Season at Manhasset Christmas Tree Lighting

North Hempstead, NY – North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth and members of the Town Board joined with hundreds of Town residents, and community leaders on December 4th for the Annual Manhasset Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony.

The crowd enjoyed hot chocolate and musical entertainment as they awaited the arrival of Santa Claus and the ceremonial lighting of the Christmas Tree at Mary Jane Davies Green and in front of Town Hall. Town Councilwoman Anna Kaplan, whose district includes Manhasset was also on hand, as well as Town Clerk Wayne Wink, Receiver of Taxes Charles Berman, Councilmen Angelo Ferrara and Peter Zuckerman, and Councilwoman Lee Seeman.

Supervisor Bosworth thanked the crowd for attending. She also thanked the co-sponsors of the program: the Manhasset Chamber of Commerce, the Manhasset Lakeville Fire and Water District, the Manhasset Park District, as well as the Town’s Administrative Services and Community Services Departments, which all worked to coordinate the celebration. She also recognized the Nassau County Police Department’s 3rd Precinct for their assistance, Soul Cycle for their donation of the hot chocolate, and local Girl Scout troops for their help in turning Mary Jane Davies Green into a winter wonderland.

Earlier, members of the Manhasset American Legion Post 304 led the crowd in the pledge of allegiance. Rev. Father Robert Romeo of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church performed the blessing and the Manhasset High School Brass Choir, directed by Randy Knudsen, played traditional Christmas music.

Nancy Morris, Co-President of the Manhasset Chamber of Commerce, handed out awards to the winners of the annual holiday poster contest, ranging in age from kindergarten to sixth grade.
