NORTH HEMPSTEAD SUPERVISOR JON KAIMAN ISSUES SAFETY TIPS FOR HALLOWEEN TRICK OR TREATING

Manhasset, NY North Hempstead Supervisor today offered some safety tips for children who participate in the Halloween tradition of “Trick or Treating.”

“Halloween is a fun time for children of all ages, but it’s also a time of year when extra vigilance is necessary,” Kaiman said. “I hope residents will follow these simple tips and that their children have a lot of fun.”

Some precautions that Halloween more safe:

  • Stay in familiar neighborhoods
  • Avoid wearing masks while walking from house to house
  • Wear clothing with reflective markings or tape
  • Approach only houses that are lit
  • Stay on sidewalks
  • Ideally, young children should be accompanied by an adult
  • Cross the street only at corners
  • Carry a flashlight to light your way
  • Accept treats at the door only and never go into a stranger’s house
  • Have an adult inspect your treats before eating. Don’t eat candy if the package is already open
  • Be cautious of animals and strangers
