Annual North Hempstead Polar Plunge Coming February 3rd to Benefit Special Olympics New York

North Hempstead, NY – Special Olympics New York, North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jennifer DeSena and the Town Board would like to remind you to join the hundreds of others who will be “Freezin’ for a Reason” on Saturday, February 3 for the Annual Town of North Hempstead Polar Plunge at North Hempstead Beach Park in Port Washington. Each winter, Special Olympics New York Polar Plunges are held throughout the state to attract thousands of thrill seekers to engage in a worthy and exhilarating fundraising event.

Brave souls with warm hearts will run and splash into the chilly waters of Hempstead Harbor to raise funds for the athletes of Special Olympics New York. The day will also highlight athletes from Special Olympics NY with the annual Long Island Region Snowshoe Competition. Approximately 40 athletes ages 8 and up will compete. Opening ceremonies will begin at 10 a.m., with the plunge and snowshoe events to follow.

“We are thrilled to once again host the Polar Plunge at North Hempstead Beach Park,” said Supervisor DeSena. “Special Olympics New York continues to inspire us with the incredible work that they do, and we are extraordinarily grateful for all the plungers who brave the cold to raise money for such a worthy cause.”

This Polar Plunge will help to provide year-round sports training and competition in Olympic-style sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities living in New York, giving them continuing opportunities at no cost to them or their families.
