Manhasset, NY - Supervisor Jon Kaiman, Councilman Anthony D’Urso and the North Hempstead Soccer Advisory Committee announce that the fifth annual North Hempstead Cup Soccer Tournament will be held on Columbus Day Weekend, October 8 – 10, 2004.  The tournament, which will be held at several locations throughout the Town, will host 254 teams from North Hempstead and the tri-state area.  The Soccer Advisory Committee invites residents to come out and cheer for these kids as they go for the cup.

“I invite everyone to join us and take part in this fantastic tournament,” said Councilman D’Urso.  “With over 250 participating teams, this promises to be our most exciting year ever and want to thank the members of North Hempstead’s Soccer Advisory Committee for their tireless work and commitment to this tournament.”

Tournament chair, John Davies added, “this soccer tournament has become an annual tradition in the Town of North Hempstead and now that we are in our fifth year, we have finally put the Town squarely on the soccer map of Long Island. As tournament chair, I also would like to thank the Soccer Advisory Committee, member clubs and the Town for providing facilities for the tournament.”

“This tournament would not have become a reality without the commitment of the Parks & Recreation Commissioner Gerard Olsen and his staff,” said Supervisor Kaiman. “It is always one of our top priorities to encourage events like this tournament to our beautiful Town.”

Games are played at many venues throughout the Town and the surrounding area including Michael J. Tully Park in New Hyde Park, Harbor Links in Port Washington, Sousa Elementary School in Sands Point, Soccer Park in Plainview and Mitchel Field in Uniondale.

The North Hempstead Cup is run by the Town of North Hempstead’s Soccer Advisory Committee, comprised of representatives from each soccer club in the Town as well as Councilman D’Urso who acts as a liaison to the Town Board.  The Committee was established in 1999 to promote and preserve the sport of soccer throughout the Town.  Members include; Committee Chair, Mitchell Edelman; Tournament Chair, John Davies; John Aryeh; Kerry Baron; Angelo Delmistro; David Fallick; Andy Feldstein; Neil Foster; Dave Gilroy; Michael Iordanou; John Leva; Brad Levine; Eric Lorandini; Barry Lubman; Dominick Marrano; Colleen & Carlos Peralta; Tricia Rudd; Skip Stern; Bob Testa; and Kathy Waters.

“The tournament proceeds are shared among the member soccer clubs of North Hempstead, with the remainder invested in further developing soccer in the town,” noted Committee Chair, Mitchell Edelman.  “With the proceeds from this years tournament we expect to enhance and upgrade existing soccer fields in the Town.”
