TNH to Host Annual Memorial Commemoration & Fireworks Show

North Hempstead, NY– As the nation prepares for next weekend’s homage to those who died serving our country, Supervisor Jon Kaiman and the North Hempstead Town Board announced the details of North Hempstead’s 2012 Annual Memorial Day Weekend fireworks tribute.

Commemorating those who gave their lives defending America, with spectacular pyrotechnics and performances by a pair of classic rock tribute bands, Beginnings and Early Elton, the Saturday May 26th beachfront bash at North Hempstead Beach Park in Port Washington kicks off at 6:00 p.m. The rain date, if necessary, will be announced soon.

“This promises to be a great outing honoring those who paid the ultimate price protecting our freedom,” Supervisor Kaiman said. “I encourage you to join us with your family and friends.”

A prelude to the Town’s summer season of exciting concerts and events in our parks, the astounding fireworks show, which will be launched from barges in the harbor, is scheduled to light up the skies around 9 p.m.

Setting the scene for the evenings’ festivities, the United States Marine Corps Color Guard, the Nassau County Police Pipe Band, the Volunteers of America firing detail, and local veterans’ organizations will honor the fallen from the nation’s armed forces. Live entertainment will feature Beginnings, a tribute to the music of the band Chicago, and Early Elton, a tribute to the music of Elton John.

All vehicles entering the park will be charged a $5 parking fee. If the parking lots fill up, Town operated buses will be available free of charge to shuttle concert-goers to the park. Law enforcement officers and North Hempstead Public Safety officers will be on hand to direct foot and vehicular traffic.

To help maintain the administration’s commitment to preserve the Town’s quality of life and focus on a healthy environment, recycling containers will be placed throughout the park. The Town asks those attending the celebration to be diligent and cooperative in placing trash in the receptacles provided.

Memorial Day Commemoration event sponsors include Piers Corporation, Huntington Bus Line and Dover Catering.
