Town Clerk Leslie Gross Earns Master Municipal Clerk Accreditation

North Hempstead, NY– It took six summers of intense, masters-level coursework, but at the end of it all, Town Clerk Leslie C. Gross not only earned accreditation as a Master Municipal Clerk, but also a highly developed skill set that she has already tapped to enhance her day-to-day work serving constituents. The International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) awarded Gross’ certification following more than 120 hours of coursework that spanned three-plus years at Cornell University, the Ivy League institution in Ithaca, New York. IIMC grants the certification after Municipal Clerks fulfill various prerequisites, including the completion of an extensive application, as well as rigorous requirements which include advanced educational and experiential components.

“I congratulate Leslie for attaining this high level of competence and earning this accreditation,” Supervisor Jon Kaiman said. “Her unfaltering dedicated to her profession serves this Town well.”

IIMC’s primary goal is to actively promote the continuing education and professional development of Municipal Clerks through extensive education programs, certification, publications, networking, annual conferences, and research. As an educational catalyst, IIMC inspires Clerks to expand and advance beyond their present levels of development. Its 10,000-plus members represent municipalities of 250 to over 10 million people in North America and 15 other countries.

“I am privileged to have been able to attend these classes at Cornell University in order to better serve my community,” Gross said.

Her classroom presence and the networking that resulted is already paying dividends in terms of hatching ideas for initiatives she plans to introduce in her office, Gross said.

One initiative she mentioned involves paying tribute to veterans in the Town. Anton Newspapers has expressed an interest in partnering with her on this project as well, Gross mentioned.

Gross completed an IIMC approved 120-hour Municipal Clerk Academy program from 2007 through 2009, and then earned her Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) accreditation in September of 2010. Another 120 hours of advanced coursework, experience, and social/professional contributions were completed to satisfy the requirements to earn the degree of Master Municipal Clerk.

Gross became North Hempstead Town Clerk in April, 2007. Prior to that, she was the Executive Director of the Town of North Hempstead’s Business and Tourism Development Corporation.
