New Hyde Park, NY – Supervisor Jon Kaiman and Councilman Tony D’Urso announced this week that the Town of North Hempstead will be coordinating a community clean-up for the medians along Hillside Avenue on Saturday April 23, 2005 from 9:00am to 3:00pm.

“This is a great opportunity for residents to come out and help us keep Hillside Avenue beautiful,” said Councilman D’Urso.

Hillside Avenue is under the jurisdiction of the New York State Department of Transportation (DOT).  In 2003 the DOT announced a rebuilding and resurfacing project for Hillside Avenue stretching from the Queens border all the way to the Long Island Rail Road tracks in East Williston.  In an effort to help beautify the roadway North Hempstead entered into an agreement where the State would plant shrubs and plants on the larger portions of the medians along Hillside Avenue and the Town, accompanied by community volunteers, would maintain the plantings and clean the medians.

Anyone interested in volunteering can contact Councilman D’Urso’s office at (516) 869-7689 or e-mail him at dursoa@northhempsteadny.gov.
