Message from North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth

Dear Friend:

Photograph of Judi Bosworth, Supervisor of the Town of North HempsteadThere are over 50,000 older residents in the Town of North Hempstead, many of whom prefer to remain in their own homes and familiar communities as they age. Project Independence is the first comprehensive aging in place initiative to be sponsored by a local government in New York State.  It provides services and opportunities for seniors that enable them to live independently, while maintaining socially active and healthy lives.

Project Independence brings together local health care providers, human service agencies, social, educational and recreational programs, and local businesses as partners, as it responds to the needs of seniors seeking support and assistance in order to remain at home with optimal good health, safety and emotional well-being.

Project Independence is a program of the Town of North Hempstead Department of Services for the Aging (DOSA). As the program has developed and expanded, it has been designed to respond to the needs of those who have given so much to build our community.

As you browse this website, you will find information about Project Independence, links to a variety of other services, a schedule of upcoming events, and articles of interest.

To reach Project Independence, simply dial 311 from anywhere in North Hempstead or (516) 869-6311 from outside the Town. Our operators have been trained to take your information and find you the assistance you need.
