Long Island Green Homes
The Town of North Hempstead is a proud partner of the Long Island Green Homes Initiative, a non-profit collaborative partnership of Long Island Towns, community-based organizations and Molloy College. Long Island Green Homes makes it easy for homeowners to accomplish the goal of energy efficiency and lower energy bills by offering a free home energy assessment that helps to make affordable improvements to their homes. Join thousands of Long Islanders and homeowners around the state who have lowered their energy bills and enjoy year-round comfort in their homes.
How It Works
Regardless of the municipality in which you live, every Long Island homeowner can participate in this program.
Long Island Green Homes makes energy efficiency simple and easy. Start by filling out the form on this site, visiting LongIslandGreenHomes.org or calling 800-567-2850. A trained Energy Navigator will pre-qualify your family and assist you in identifying rebates, discounts, financing, and ensure that you understand precisely what your household is eligible for. The Energy Navigator will then arrange for your Free Home Energy Assessment, culminating in a report of your home’s efficiency and a detailed plan for the improvements you can choose to have done to save you money and improve the comfort of your home.
At the same time a preliminary analysis of your home's potential for rooftop solar power will be made. If this seems possible then additional assistance will be provided.
Additional programs may exist for low and moderate-income families. Speak to your Energy Navigator for information on programs for which you may qualify.
The Process
1. You tell us about your home
The first step is a brief conversation with a Long Island Complete Green Homes Consortium Energy Navigator where you tell us about your home and any energy efficiency issues that you are aware of. Our navigators will also utilize this opportunity to explain the rebates, discounts and financing for which you are eligible.
2. You receive a FREE home energy assessment
We will arrange for a certified Long Island professional who will conduct a comprehensive energy assessment of your home to identify any efficiency or health and safety related issues.
3. Post assessment
After the assessment, your certified Long Island contractor will present you with your home’s energy efficiency analysis and report. This itemized report will detail each of your efficiency upgrade options and how each option can improve your home’s comfort, savings, and efficiency.
4. Signing the contract
You authorize any or all of the work that you would like performed on your home by signing the final agreement with your contractor.
5. Making your energy efficiency improvements
It only takes a few days to save you thousands of dollars over the course of a year! You’ll enjoy all of the benefits that come from a home that is more energy efficient – comfort, savings on your heating and cooling bills, higher resale value.
Fill out the form at www.longislandgreenhomes.org or call 800-567-2850 and an Energy Navigator will contact you to arrange a FREE home energy audit.
