North Hempstead ‘Yes We Can’ Community Center Presented Check for Member Scholarships

New Cassel, NY – North Hempstead Supervisor Bosworth and Councilwoman Viviana Russell announce that the Town has accepted a check for $2,741 from the Million Woman Community Development of Long Island, in partnership with the McCoy Center Family and Youth Services, to be used for annual memberships to the North Hempstead “Yes We Can” Community Center.

“This generous gift will enable more people to access this wonderful facility and all it has to offer,”, said Supervisor Judi Bosworth. “Our ‘Yes We Can’ Community Center enriches families and the entire community with opportunities for recreation, fitness and social interaction.”

The money will go toward providing 75 annual scholarships for residents. One-year memberships to the ‘Yes We Can’ Community Center will be available for students; seniors will be offered a one-year membership to the fitness center.

Councilwoman Viviana Russell said, “We would like to thank the Million Woman Community Development Long Island and the McCoy Center Family and Youth Services for their commitment and dedication to the ‘Yes We Can’ Community Center.”

“This gift will promote the use of Fitness, Sports, and Recreation as valuable tools that enhance the overall well-being, and social skills of youth and seniors in a safe environment”, said Million Woman Chairperson Elaine Hoskins. “These scholarships will permit students to have access to a state of the art facility with guided activities and attest to the quality services of the Town.”

The Million Woman Community Development of Long Island is a primary organizer of community initiatives. It was founded after the historical Million Woman March (1997), in Philadelphia and is designed to foster common goal-oriented activities that build economic, political and social unity within communities.

The McCoy Center Family and Youth Services organization strives to provide quality services focused on the wellness of families and individuals, while promoting strong partnerships with schools, businesses and other service agents.
