Supervisor Bosworth & Board Members Cut Ribbon on New Town Animal Shelter Dog Kennels

North Hempstead, NY – For the first time in more than 40 years, the Town of North Hempstead Animal Shelter will be equipped with brand new dog kennels and this week Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth and the Town Board marked the occasion with a celebratory ribbon-cutting ceremony. The 60 kennels that were recently installed include indoor runs, give the dogs in the shelter’s care a safe environment, and feature brighter lighting so that visitors can view the dogs in a more inviting atmosphere.

“I am pleased we were finally able to update the kennels here at the Shelter,” said Supervisor Bosworth. “We have a responsibility to give the dogs in our care a safe environment.”

The new kennels feature higher walls so that the dogs have more privacy and are not stressed by neighboring dogs. The kennels were purchased and installed by DBA Mason Company LLC at a cost of $92,253.

The Town’s Division of the Animal Shelter is responsible for administering and maintaining the Town's dog shelter, enforcing local and state animal protection, control and licensing laws, and administering Town dog control services.

The Animal Shelter takes in about 400 dogs a year in need of good homes. The Town works in partnership with The Shelter Connection, a tax exempt, non-profit organization that works to facilitate the adoption of Shelter dogs, and to provide Shelter dogs with obedience and socialization training.

For more information about adopting one of the dogs, call 516-869-6311, or visit at 75 Marino Avenue (West of Port Washington Boulevard), Port Washington, New York 11050
