Councilwoman Kaplan Getting Out Her Walking Shoes for Car Free Day

North Hempstead, NY – Councilwoman Anna Kaplan will be leaving her car in the driveway and making the mile and a half walk to work at Town Hall on September 22 in observation of Car Free day. This international event urges people to avoid the use of cars and to instead use alternative transportation such as transit, biking, walking or carpooling.

“I am excited to be taking part in this year’s Car Free Day and I look forward to the walk to work that day,” Councilwoman Kaplan said. “I encourage everyone to pledge to be car-free or car-lite for Car Free Day. It’s important for us to realize how critical it is to conserve energy and reduce our carbon footprint.”

Over 2,500 Long Islanders pledged to be car free or car-lite last year which resulted in the avoidance of over 65,000 miles of driving and 32 tons of CO2 emissions.

Please take the pledge at www.CarFreeDayLI.com.
