Free Platform Tennis Clinic at Manorhaven Park

Immediate Release - Contact: David Chauvin - October 12, 2005 (516) 869-7794

Port Washington, NY– Supervisor Jon Kaiman and Councilman Fred Pollack announced that the North Hempstead Parks Department will host a free platform tennis clinic and exhibition on Saturday October 22, 2005, beginning at 10:00am.The clinic will be held at the newly renovated platform tennis courts at Manorhaven Park located on Manorhaven Blvd. in Port Washington.

Platform Tennis has been popular on Long Island for many years, and has long been considered as the winter alternative to traditional tennis. Played on a smaller, raised, and enclosed court, Platform Tennis is a fast paced game which uses many of the same racquet strokes as tennis. Although there are many subtleties to the game, it is a sport which is easily learned, and even the beginning player can enjoy the sport from the first day.

The program, which will be held in cooperation with the Long Island Platform Tennis Association (LIPTA), includes a free paddle clinic for players of all ages, and men’s and women’s exhibition matches, scheduled for 12:00 pm and 12:30 pm respectively.

The fun begins at 10:00 am with the instructional clinics. Refreshments will be served, and there is no charge for this program, which is open to all Town of North Hempstead residents.

For additional information about the Platform Tennis Clinic, please call the North Hempstead Parks Department at (516) 327-3110.
