Town of North Hempstead Seeks Musicians for Community Band

North Hempstead, NY – North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth, Councilwoman Viviana Russell and the Town Board announced this week that they are seeking experienced musicians to join the newly formed Yes We Can Community Band.

Every Thursday, beginning November 5, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., band members will get together for practice in the gymnasium of the Town of North Hempstead’s “Yes We Can” Community Center. The goal by the end of the program is to have the band play at the Christmas Tree Lighting at “Yes We Can” on December 22nd, and at the Black History Month celebration in February.

The band will be led by Michael Carpenter, the former Band Director for Westbury High School. In order to participate, you must be 12 years of age or older, have your own instrument and music stand and be able to read music. Percussion, woodwind, and brass instruments are all welcome.

The “Yes We Can” Community Center is a state-of-the-art 60,000 square foot facility that features two NBA-sized basketball courts, fitness center, dance studio, senior and teen lounge, community meeting rooms and more. It is located at 141 Garden Street in New Cassel.
