NHTV Takes TWO 1st Place Awards in 2016 Hometown Media Awards

Town’s nature program ‘Off The Trail” & PSA with canine actors win big

North Hempstead, NY – North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth announced this week that the Town of North Hempstead’s non-commercial government channel North Hempstead Television (NHTV) has won two first place awards in the Alliance for Community Media’s Annual Hometown Media Awards. For the second year in a row, the Town’s original nature program “Off the Trail,” hosted by Ranger Eric Powers, won 1st place honors in the Entertainment & Arts- Series and a public service announcement (PSA) that has dogs and people changing places to illustrate the danger of leaving your dog in a hot car, won first place in the PSA category.

“It’s wonderful to have the Town recognized by the Alliance for Community Media for wonderful programming on NHTV,’” said Supervisor Bosworth. “We believe that government TV doesn’t have to be dull. ‘Off The Trail’ really takes the viewer on a journey to explore the natural world around us and our PSAs are always entertaining as they are educational.”

The nature series is directed by Alan Ginsberg and Samantha Hollinde of AGinsberg Productions LLC, and produced by Carole Trottere, Director of Communications for North Hempstead and biologist Eric Powers of Your Connection to Nature.

“Off The Trail” takes a look at local nature and our natural surroundings in the North Hempstead area, observing everything from global warming and its effects on our environment to exploring what’s below the waters of Long Island Sound.

The PSA was also directed by Mr. Ginsberg, with a script written by Ms. Trottere. It starred Communications staff member Sam Marksheid as a dog left in a hot car by his owner, a real dog. The dog was played by Gangsta. To view the PSA see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qk5eW1oV0cE

TV Studio Director Ginsberg is responsible for all of the programming for NHTV including new and fresh content weekly and more than 60 new programs each year. The goal of NHTV is to inform the public about all the Town has to offer in new and exciting ways. NHTV programming is available by tuning in to Channel 18 or 63 on Cablevision and Channel 46 on Verizon FIOS or by logging on to www.mynhtv.com.

"It is extremely exciting when we get to take such important messages and put fun and creative twists on them,” said Mr. Ginsberg. “Receiving these awards is a humbling experience. We are so thrilled to be serving the great Town of North Hempstead and all of its residents - humans and animals alike."
The Town will be officially presented with its award at the Alliance for Community Media Conference in August in Minneapolis, MN. Last year NHTV won for “Off The Trail” in the same category and in 2015 the Town won for its mobile app public service announcement.

The goal of the ACM includes advocacy for the protection of Public, Educational and Government Access for all communities in the region and the nation.
