Reminder: Town Offers Casework Dedicated to Veterans Services
North Hempstead, NY – North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth, the Town Board and the Town’s Veterans Advisory Committee remind residents that the Town’s Department of Services for the Aging (DOSA) allocates seven to 10 hours a week of social work exclusively devoted to veterans’ needs. There is no charge for the service.
“The Town wants to remind its veterans that there is a dedicated caseworker available to them,” said Supervisor Bosworth. “We hope that any veteran in need of services will take advantage of this service. They have sacrificed so much for our nation and services like this are the very least we can do in return.”
This service is available to any veteran whether they have been deployed in the past or not. This includes those who have served our country who are not aware they are classified as veterans, an example of this are those who have served in the military reserves.
The caseworker, who is a gerontologist, works with the veterans by appointment at the DOSA offices located at Clinton G. Martin Park in New Hyde Park and at the Port Washington Senior Center located at 80 Manorhaven Blvd. in Port Washington. A home visit will also be made if needed. Veterans can receive help with a number of issues, including assistance with accessing benefits and connecting to a variety of services.
The Town also has a Veteran Advisory Committee (VAC) dedicated to aiding veterans of the Town and advocating on veterans’ issues.
For the VAC’s complete list of services and organizations that can assists you, including available discounts and important contact numbers and links, please log on to www.northhempsteadny.gov/veterans or you can call 311.
