Town Board Awards Contract for Housing Quality Improvement Program Coordinator
North Hempstead, NY – North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth and the Town Board approved an award to ProChamps, for a housing quality improvement program coordinator at the August 15 Town Board meeting. The Zombie Property Coordinator (ZPC) will be responsible for locating, researching and addressing vacant properties in the Town. The ZPC’s contract will be funded through a New York State Attorney General grant the Town received two years ago to fight zombie properties. The ZPC would work together with the Building Department and Code Enforcement to establish a comprehensive list of properties that are in foreclosure, vacant, eyesores or dangerous to the health, safety and welfare of the community.
In addition, the Board set a date of September 6 for a public hearing on a proposed new law that would require paint used to cover graffiti be of the same or a similar color to the surface. The new law is intended to improve quality of life.
The Board also held a public hearing to discuss the construction of a 14,748 square foot addition to a wastepaper recycling facility located in Westbury. The new design plan is intended to make the site more esthetically pleasing to the community.
The Town also set multiple hearing dates, including the demolition of two properties, located at 19 State Street in Westbury in order to construct a new parking lot that would accommodate 108 additional parking spaces for use by occupants of an offsite office building.
