TOWN OF NORTH HEMPSTEAD ANNOUNCES NEW PROJECTED JOB GROWTH

1,248 NEW JOBS FOR TOWN IN NEXT FIVE YEARS

Westbury, New York – Supervisor Jon Kaiman, Councilman Robert Troiano, officials from Nassau County, and local business owners announced today that the Town’s economic development effort, in conjunction with the North Hempstead Business and Tourism Development Corporation (BTDC), and the Nassau County Empire Zone, has led to the projected creation of 1,248 new business sector jobs over the next five years.

“I’m pleased to announce today the projected creation of 1,248 new business sector jobs in North Hempstead over the next five years,” said Supervisor Kaiman. “With the assistance of the BTDC, five companies have already been approved by the Nassau County Empire Zone Administrative Board for benefits that will allow these businesses to expand and improve their operations, including the creation of new, well-paid jobs.”

“The Empire Zone program is designed to produce just this kind of projected growth,” said Deputy County Executive Patrick Duggan. “The success the Town of North Hempstead announced today is thanks to the cooperative efforts of County Executive Tom Suozzi, Supervisor Jon Kaiman, the Nassau County Legislature, and the Office of Economic Development’s Business Unit.”

Of the 1,248 new jobs projected to be created during the next 5 years, businesses already approved for economic development incentives include PL Developments in Westbury (275+ jobs); Johnson & Hoffman LLC in Carle Place (60 jobs); B & R Machinery & Tool Corp. in Westbury (90 jobs); Cryostar Industries in Westbury (8 jobs); and Cardoza Plumbing Corp. in Westbury (55 jobs). Additionally, Broadridge Financial Solutions will bring 350 jobs to its new offices in Lake Success by this summer and projects another 300 jobs during the next 5 years, and Finesse Novelty intends to bring 110 jobs to the Village of Port Washington North when it moves its business from Queens.

“The projected 1,248 new jobs represent this past year’s economic development successes,” Councilman Troiano said. “We are far from done. North Hempstead is a great place in which to do business, and we will continue to make every effort to help businesses locate, relocate or simply re-energize within our Town’s boundaries.”

The North Hempstead Business and Tourism Development Corporation was founded in March, 2005 to act as a liaison between the Town’s government and business community by facilitating economic development and tourism within the Town of North Hempstead. The BTDC, a non-profit, local development corporation, was created to enhance business development and economic opportunities for the North Hempstead business community.

The Nassau County Empire Zone is part of New York State’s Empire Zone Program, which is designed to boost local economies, by offering businesses located within an Empire Zone to apply for several benefits including sales tax exemption, real property and business tax credit. The purpose of the Empire Zone Program is to attract successful companies to an area and to retain New York companies that might otherwise move to other parts of the country where operating costs are significantly lower. The program provides eligible companies that increase employment the opportunity to operate on an almost “tax-free” basis for up to 10 years in designated areas. Two of the businesses mentioned have been jointly approved by the local Empire Zone Certifying Officer and the NYS Commissioners of the Departments of Economic Development and Labor for certification eligibility and the remaining three businesses have submitted applications pending approval by the State.
