Town Clerk's Office Processes 1,000th New Passport

North Hempstead, NY – The Town of North Hempstead’s Clerk’s office reached a milestone this as it processed its 1,000th new passport. In addition to accepting new applications, the Clerk’s Office also assists with renewals of expiring passports as a customer service and takes photos for a small fee. The Town’s passport program was first launched in April of 2017.

“When we first started this program we were wanted to offer our residents an easy and convenient way of getting their passport processed,” said Supervisor Judi Bosworth.  “Thanks to the hard work of the Town’s Clerk office, thousands of people have been able to take advantage of this service.”

“What we’ve done is expand Town services at no cost to the taxpayer,” said Town Clerk Wayne Wink. “The program got up and running using our existing staff and it has been a tremendous success due to their dedicated efforts.”

The Clerk’s Office has also begun hosting mobile passport events where passports have been processed at various libraries throughout the Town. The office has done five to date with more planned in the near future.

To apply for a passport, applicants must bring two forms of government issued identification, as well as fill out the application which can be found at: https://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/passports.html or picked up in the Town Clerk’s office. The Town is able to take photos on site for a fee of $10. This service is open to both residents and non-residents. Since its inception, passport services have generated nearly $40,000 in revenues.

There are two fees associated with filing for a passport; the execution fee which is paid to the Town Clerk’s office and the application fee which is paid to the Department of State. Payments for the execution fee can be made with cash, check or credit but please note that the application fee must be paid by check. For a complete listing of passport fees please visit: https://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/passports/information/fees.html
