Town Unveils Remote Exercise Classes for Seniors

North Hempstead, NY -Supervisor Judi Bosworth and the Town Board have announced that Project Independence (PI), the Town’s aging-in-place initiative, will be offering a slate of at home exercise classes for seniors. In keeping with recommendations to stay at home whenever possible, the exercise classes will now be remotely recorded and offered to residents free of charge.

"In these unprecedented times, we are constantly looking for new ways to connect with our residents. Through NHTV, we are able to provide our seniors with the exercise classes they have come to enjoy in person -- now helping them stay fit and active at home,” said Supervisor Judi Bosworth. “This month we also started recording our ‘Project Independence and You’ radio show using an online platform. It truly is wonderful how technology can bring us together.”

The PI exercise classes will be broadcasted on the Town’s public access television station, North Hempstead TV (NHTV). Residents will be able to watch the programs on channel 18 or 63 on Cablevision and channel 46 on Verizon FIOS.

Offerings will include fitness, Zumba and yoga classes. New programs will air on Mondays at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., with many of the classes happening at the same time as they would in-person. For a complete schedule visit: mynhtv.com.
