North Hempstead, NY - North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth, the Town Board, and members of the Town's Parks and Recreation Department are pleased to announce that North Hempstead Town Parks will reopen for passive use starting Monday, May 11. The Championship Golf Course at Harbor Links will be reopening on a limited basis on May 11 as well. Everyone is still being advised that they must follow precautionary measures to ensure the safety of both residents and Town employees.

"We have been encouraged by the amount of progress made here in New York State in diminishing the spread of coronavirus," said Supervisor Bosworth. "With the weather getting warmer, opening up our parks for passive use offers additional opportunities to get some fresh air and exercise. While this modified reopening represents a message of hope, the health and well-being of everyone will always be our top priority. As such, all park visitors must wear protective masks when in situations where they are unable to practice social distancing."

Supervisor Bosworth joined with all other Town supervisors across Long Island last week to form the Nassau/Suffolk Joint Summer Operations Task Force. The group's collaboration on when to strategically reopen recreational facilities is designed to prevent a potential surge in crowding at any particular Town or location due to a lack of coordination.

“The decisions we are making are being done in consultation with our neighboring municipalities,” stated Bosworth. “Prior to determining when to reopen, I reached out to Hempstead Supervisor Clavin and Oyster Bay Supervisor Saladino to coordinate our efforts.”

Nassau County's Office of Emergency Management has requested that anyone who observes people gathering and not complying with mandated social distancing regulations to please email send an email to ShutDownEnforcement@nassaucountyny.gov.
