North Hempstead Extends Free Medical and Food Transportation for Seniors

North Hempstead, NY - – Supervisor Judi Bosworth and the Town Board remind residents that Project Independence is offering free transportation for medical and food shopping trips until the end of the year.

The Town will be paying for all costs associated with Project Independence transportation rides, including all fees for drivers.

“The Town wants to assist our senior residents during these uncertain and unusual times,” said Supervisor Judi Bosworth. “By providing these essential services for our residents, we hope we are able to give them a sense of normalcy and help them with their everyday needs.”

Beginning in April, Project Independence, the Town’s aging-in-place initiative, began covering the costs of transportation fees. The program has been extended to help further assist senior residents.

Residents can call 311 or 516-869-6311, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m.to 6 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to make an appointment.
