Town Hosts Spring Sports Program at “Yes We Can” Community Center 

North Hempstead, NY – Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth, Council Member Viviana Russell, and the Town Board have announced new spring programs that will be held at the “Yes We Can” Community Center in Westbury. The programming schedule includes instructional youth sports lessons for children ranging from ages 5 to 17 years old from April 5 through June 27, 2021. All programs will be held following social distance guidelines.

“Our Spring sports program offers fun recreational activities for children at our local parks and ‘Yes We Can’ Community Center,” said Supervisor Judi Bosworth. “All participants will wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines to ensure a safe program for all. We hope families and their children enjoy the great slate of offerings we have this season.”

The instructional youth sports lessons are for those with active "Yes We Can" memberships only. Parents are required to remain with 5 to 7 year olds during programs. The lessons include the following:

Outdoor Soccer: Youth Indoor Instructional Soccer will focus on the fundamental techniques of the game and provide physical conditioning that develops stamina and endurance. Participants will learn skills such as dribbling, passing, ball control, defense and game techniques. The soccer program will be held at Martin “Bunky” Reid Park.

8 to 11 year olds: Fridays from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
12 to 14 year olds: Fridays from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

5 to 7 year olds: Saturdays from 9:15 a.m. to 10 a.m.
8 to 11 year olds: Saturdays from 10:15 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Basketball: Youth Instructional Basketball will introduce the concept of teamwork and instill self-confidence in participants. Classes will provide total skill development involving all aspects of the game which include dribbling, passing, scoring, and defense.

5 to 7 year olds: Monday from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
8 to 11 year olds: Mondays from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
12 to 14 year olds: Mondays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

15 to 17 year olds: Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Outdoor Football: Youth Instructional Flag Football will tackle all key aspects of football, the basic rules of the game, and skill development. Members will learn important skills such as throwing, catching, running, and playing defense.

8 to 11 year olds: Wednesdays from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
12 to 14 year olds: Wednesdays from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

5 to 7 year olds: Saturdays from 12 p.m. to 12:45 p.m.
8 to 11 year olds: Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.

Outdoor Baseball: Youth Instructional Baseball will teach members the fundamentals of baseball as well as the rules of the game. Experienced coaches will teach various skills such as hitting, pitching, fielding, and base running.

8 to 11 year olds: Tuesdays from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
12 to 14 year olds: Tuesdays from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

5 to 7 year olds: Saturdays from 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.
