Town Partners with NYS Assemblywoman Sillitti to Host Free Self Defense Class
North Hempstead, NY – Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth, Council Member Mariann Dalimonte and the Town Board along with New York State Assemblywoman Gina Sillitti have announced that they will be hosting a free self-defense class at Blumenfeld Family Park in Port Washington on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 3 p.m.
“We are pleased to be able to offer our residents such a unique in-person opportunity to learn how to protect themselves and keep their families safe,” said Supervisor Bosworth. “I would like to thank Assemblywoman Gina Sillitti and Blue Moon Martial Arts for bringing their extremely successful virtual self-defense course to life at Blumenfeld Family Park, and I certainly encourage residents to take advantage of this wonderful program.”
“This is the perfect way to safely spend some time outdoors, while learning self-defense and skills to protect and defend yourself,” said Council Member Dalimonte. “We encourage all residents to sign up for this educational class.”
“With 350 people in attendance, our virtual class that we held a few weeks ago was so wildly popular we knew we needed to bring it to an in-person venue. I am so thankful to partner with Supervisor Bosworth, Councilwoman Dalimonte, and the Town of North Hempstead on this important and educational opportunity for our residents,” said Assemblywoman Gina Sillitti. “This event is open to all, and a fantastic experience for all to prepare themselves should they encounter a threatening situation. We hope no one ever needs to utilize this training but are grateful to the staff at Blue Moon Martial Arts for making it available to our community so we can all feel safe and empowered.”
Local Port Washington business, Blue Moon Martial Arts will be partnering to educate participants on safety and self-defense tactics that they can easily perform.
Those interested in participating must register in advance by calling 311 or 516-869-6311. There are a limited number of spaces and capacity will be limited in compliance with social distancing guidelines. All individuals must wear a mask while participating in the class. Upon check-in for the class attendees will be required to sign a fitness waiver form.
In case of inclement weather, the rain date for the class will be on Sunday, June 6, 2021 at noon.
