Town Recognized as a “Tree City USA” by the Arbor Day Foundation for the Tenth Year

North Hempstead, NY – Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth and the Town Board are pleased to announce that the Town has once again been recognized as a “Tree City USA” by the Arbor Day Foundation.

This is the tenth year that the Town has received the designation of “Tree City USA.” This designation is given out to towns and cities that have a viable tree management plan and program. In order to be eligible to be recognized as a “Tree City USA” community, certain requirements must be met such as having a Tree Board or Department, having a Tree Care Ordinance, having a Community Forestry Program and the observance of Arbor Day.

“We are proud to be celebrating the Town’s 10th year being recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation for our commitment to the environment, especially in planting and caring for our trees,” said Supervisor Bosworth. “It is important for us to preserve our local environment here in the Town of North Hempstead, and ensure it remains resilient for future generations.”

The “Tree City USA” program was created by the Arbor Day Foundation, which is the nation’s leading community forestry program that provides a foundation for effective and well-organized community tree care. It is also facilitated in cooperation with the USDA Forest Service and the New York Department of Environmental Conservation. This program provides direction, technical assistance, public attention, and national recognition for urban and community forestry programs in thousands of towns and cities that more than 93 million Americans call home.
