North Hempstead Reminds Residents About Free & Discounted Taxi Rides for Residents with Disabilities

North Hempstead, NY – Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth, the Town Board and the North Hempstead Disability Advisory Committee would like to remind residents that the Town has partnered with local taxi companies to offer free and discounted taxi trips for residents with disabilities.

“We are proud to be able to offer this wonderful transportation program for our residents with disabilities,” said Supervisor Judi Bosworth. “Transportation can sometimes be challenging for individuals with disabilities, especially on Long Island. We hope this will help so many of our residents with their grocery shopping and medical appointments.”

Residents with a disability who are ages 21-59 are eligible for free taxi rides for grocery shopping trips and discounted taxi rides for medical appointments. All residents 60 and older are eligible for this service as well through the Project Independence transportation program.

For more information and to determine eligibility, please call 311 or (516) 869-6311. All rides must be booked least one day in advance.

Please note that residents looking to use this service must be able to ride in a taxi, and if traveling with a wheelchair or walker, it must be able to fold and fit into the trunk.
