North Hempstead Encourages Residents to Shop Small This Holiday Season

North Hempstead, NY – North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth and the Town Board are urging residents to support Small Business Saturday on November 27, as part of a national effort to drive consumers to shop at local, independently owned businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

“It is extraordinarily important for us to support the local small businesses that make our communities unique,” said Supervisor Judi Bosworth. “Downtowns are the lifeblood of our local economy, and it is our responsibility to help them flourish. The impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic are still affecting many of our local businesses today and it is incumbent upon us to show our support for them by shopping small both on Small Business Saturday and throughout the holiday season.”

In an effort to assist local business owners, the Town has embarked on initiatives such as Small Business Spotlight on the Town’s social media channels, PR training for local business owners, and organizing a Shopopoly campaign for shoppers in the Mineola and New Hyde Park Chamber of Commerce districts.

Small Business Saturday, November 27, is part of a national effort to drive consumers to shop at local, independently owned businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Since its inception in 2010, nearly $140 billion has been spent nationwide at small businesses on Small Business Saturday.
