Town Clerk Ready for ‘Lucky’ Valentine Weddings
Manhasset, NY- Valentine’s Day is for couples in love and it’s one of the highlights of my year,” says North Hempstead Town Clerk Leslie Gross. On that day, she clears her calendar of all the usual business to concentrate on one task only: performing wedding ceremonies.
“This year, Valentine’s Day ceremonies will be performed on Friday the 13th – often thought of as unlucky,” said Ms. Gross, “but what better way to end such thoughts than to say ‘I Do’ under the beautiful arch in the Town Hall Board Room?” On this special day, newlyweds enjoy live music – compliments of violinist Graham Silver – freshly-baked goods, and each bride receives a gift from Ms. Gross.
Town residents who wish to be married by Ms. Gross may request an appointment between noon and 4:00 pm. The wedding ceremony is free but please note there is a 24-hour waiting period from the time the marriage license is issued until the wedding ceremony can be performed.
“If you’ve got the ring, we’ve got the chapel,” said Supervisor Jon Kaiman. “You can even renew your vows in our hundred-year-old Town Hall building.”
Are you beginning to hear wedding bells? If you are, February 13th might be the perfect day to listen to them chime. For a wedding ceremony appointment, please call the Town Clerk’s Office @ 869-7646.
