Town of North Hempstead Urge Residents to Stay Safe This Winter, Attend “Jack Frost” Seminar

Herricks, NY—With winter approaching, bringing with it all the travails of cold weather from frozen plumbing and highway spin-outs to slip and fall mishaps, Supervisor Jon Kaiman and Councilman Tom Dwyer announced the acclaimed North Hempstead seminar on winter weather safety.

The Seventh Annual “Getting Ready for Jack Frost” symposium, to be held at the Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center at 300 Forest Dr., East Hills on December 7, is scheduled from 1:00p.m.—2:30 p.m.

“Constituent safety tops this administration’s agenda,” said Supervisor Kaiman, “We have tailored the seminar to focus on precautions you can take to stay healthy, prevent home fires and thwart property damage, among other things, during the winter months.”

Councilman Tom Dwyer offered: “The cold weather dictates that residents take the necessary steps to protect themselves and their homes. That means educating yourselves on the various means and tactics available to help you deal with winter safely and economically.”

The presenters include Paula Uhl, a Licensed Certified Social Worker and the Director of Senior Citizen Affairs for North Hempstead’s Department of Services for the Aging; Carlos Varon, Director of Emergency Services for the American Red Cross; Jamie Iuculano of Willis Avenue Hardware in Albertson; and Eileen Beetar, Traffic Safety Program Coordinator of the American Automobile Association.

Respectively, they will give presentations on “Project Independence”, North Hempstead’s ambitious “aging in place” initiative, “Preparing for a Winter Storm,” “Winterizing Your Home,” and “Winter Driving Tips.”

Free light desserts will be served.

Reservations, which are required, can be made by calling 311 or 516-869-6311 from outside the Town.
