FunDay Monday at North Hempstead Beach Park
Town Announces New 2012 Schedule for Popular Senior Event

North Hempstead, NY– Supervisor Jon Kaiman and the North Hempstead Town Board recently announced the 2012 schedule for the free senior event, FunDay Monday, held at North Hempstead Beach Park in Port Washington.

Organized through the department of Community Services, FunDay Monday draws hundreds of seniors every Monday from 10:00am to 2:00pm. The event offers live music, entertainment, dancing, card-playing and a chance for seniors to renew old acquaintances, all while enjoying the sights and sounds of the Town beach.

“FunDay Monday is a great opportunity for our seniors to enjoy a relaxing afternoon at North Hempstead Beach Park,” said Supervisor Jon Kaiman. “We have arranged fun-filled activities every Monday as well as free transportation. Seniors can simply call 311 to arrange for transportation and for more details on the program.”

North Hempstead’s Department of Community Services released the following schedule for all FunDay Monday Events:

July 9 is “Welcome Back Beach Party”. Come on back for a FunDay Monday reunion with a performance by Stan & Edie. Stan is the original lead singer of the Del Satins, Dion’s background vocal group on all of his hit records. Just recently, he voted into the Rock n' Roll hall of fame. Edie has been performing with Stan for twelve years and her charm and personality only add to her exceptional talent and beautiful voice.

July 16 is “Las Vegas Day”. Odds are that you’re going to love the winning tribute to the Rat Pack!

July 23 is “Sock Hop”. You don’t need to put money in the juke box to rock with Vic Vincent.

July 30 is the “Health Fair”. This annual health education fair provides seniors with screenings, literature, and education materials. If you know someone who would benefit from the services at the health fair, invite them to come. It’s fun and it’s free!

August 6 is “Blue Hawaii”. Take a trip to the Polynesian island with the amazing Dance Aloha. Then, let Elvis make your dreams come true in Blue Hawaii.

August 13 is “Mardi Gras”. They’ll be plenty of dancing, feathers, beads and masks! It’s a celebration of jazz with local favorite recording artist, Vincent Rhodes.

August 20 is “Pirates of the Gold Coast”. Ahoy Matey! Come sail the Great Gold Coast with CD Rocks Entertainment.

August 27 is “HomeTown USA Family Day”. Come say goodbye to summer with a celebration of American traditions and a special Salute to the Armed Forces.

Weekly classes will be offered on FunDay Monday as well. From 10:00am – 11:00am, seniors can take a course to learn how to line dance. Both yoga and bridge will be offered from 11:00am – 12:00pm.

Rain dates will be on Thursdays of the same week in the event of a rain-out. Please call the Town Call Center at 311 or (516) 869-6311 for more information.
