Close to 100 Couples Renew Marriage Vows at Town of North Hempstead Fourth Annual Mass Valentine’s Day Ceremony
North Hempstead, NY– Seventy one years of marriage to his wife Ruth has taught him the recipe for matrimonial bliss, Larry Schiffman said: Mix liberal amounts of respect, support and compassion with “generous portions of love” and marinate a long, long time.
The Schiffman’s were among 85 couples who, having racked up 50 years or more of marriage, attended North Hempstead’s fourth annual Marriage Vow Renewal Ceremony this past Valentine’s Day.
Themed “Love is in the Air,” the mass ceremony was held inside the Clubhouse at Harbor Links Golf Course in Port Washington. It was hosted and presided over by Town Clerk Leslie Gross, the Town’s chief marriage officer.
After rededicating themselves to each other beneath a canopy draped in white lace and sharing some insights on their personal formula for long-lasting marriages, the couples were treated to lunch.
“It’s wonderful to have all of you here today and I wish you so many, many more years together,” Gross said. “It’s an honor and a blessing to share this day with each and every one of you.”
Councilwoman, Dina De Giorgio noted: “In a world where we don’t necessarily recognize family, love and commitment, it’s awesome to be in a room with so many people who obviously do.”
Friends of Cedarmere President John B. Dawson, Nassau County Legislator Wayne Wink, North Hempstead Supervisor Jon Kaiman, Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano, North Hempstead Town Clerk Leslie Gross, Town of North Hempstead Historian Howard Kroplick, and Long Island North Shore Heritage Area Executive Director Jennifer Sappell were all present at the Cedarmere historical marker ceremony.
The Fourth Annual Valentine’s Day Marriage Vow Renewal Ceremony had approximately one hundred couples in attendance.
